Admission Requirements**

  • A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0
  • NEW: A science grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0*
  • Completion of at least 30 semester hours of prerequisites at the time the application for admission is submitted
  • All prerequisites must be completed prior to first enrollment in nursing coursework.
  • Computer Requirements For OUCN Students - Effective Fall 1998 all students will be required to own a computer. Specific computer and software requirements will be shared with students at orientation. Financial aid may be obtained for the purchase of required equipment.

*  Approved Spring 2006.  Will be implemented starting Fall 2007 for Traditional BSN applicants.

Prerequisite Courses**

Students may complete the required prerequisite courses at The University of Oklahoma, Norman Campus, or at another accredited college or university. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C.  All prerequisites must be completed prior to first enrollment in nursing coursework

General Education courses required for all applicants, except:

  • Items 1-4 may be waived for those beginning college level course work prior to the Fall 1990 term, or for those with an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree,  a Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Item 4 may also be met by two semesters of the same language in College or two years of the same language in High School.  A High School transcript may be required.  Can not combine High School and College credit to meet requirement.
  • Item 5 may only be waived for those beginning College level course work prior to the Fall 1990 term, or those with a Bachelor's degree or higher.

*  Students are advised to take separate Human Anatomy and Human Physiology courses. Combined A&P I and A&P II courses may not meet the OU Nursing requirement regardless of transfer equivalency to the OU Norman campus. This applies to students attending Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) as well as other select schools. Please consult with an advisor if you have any doubt.

** SOC 1113 is just one example of a course that can be taken to meet this requirement.  For more classes that will meet this requirement, please contact an academic advisor.
