"The CNE Certification and Re-Certification Process"

Since its initial offering in September 2005, the certified nurse educator credential has been earned by nearly 850 nurse educators nationwide, with an overall pass rate of 83%. The availability of this credential has afforded faculty from all program types the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise and to help establish the advanced specialty role of the academic nurse educator.
Seminar Objectives
- Describe the purpose and goals of CNE certification
- Examine the CNE test blueprint and sample questions from each content area*
- Delineate the various resources available for certification preparation.
- Analyze the requirements for certification renewal.
This audio web presentation will provide information about the purpose and goals of certification for academic nurse educators as well as an overview of the test blueprint. Additionally, a sample question from each content area will be discussed, information about available resources for certification preparation will be shared, and an overview of the certification renewal process will be provided.
About the Speaker

Tracy A. Ortelli, MS, RN, CNE
Ms. Ortelli is the Manager, Nurse Educator Certification for the National League for Nursing’s Academic Nurse Educator Certification Program. In this position she has managed the development, launching and delivery of the first national certification examination for academic nurse educators, the Certified Nurse Educator CM (CNE) examination. Prior to this position, she worked as a test developer for a major testing service organization for several years. In this role, she was involved in the development of computer adaptive test items for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX®) for Registered and Practical Nurses. Her work as a test developer also includes the creation of over one hundred continuing education tests for nursing journals and multi-media educational materials. Ms. Ortelli, a certified critical care nurse (CCRN) alumnus, has fifteen years experience in clinical nursing practice and several years experience as a nurse educator. She received a Master of Science degree in nursing from Columbia University, New York, New York, and a B.S.N. from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.
Please note: This presentation is not intended to serve as a content review course for the CNE examination. One sample question will be provided for each of the eight content areas of the test blueprint, time permitting. Any questions not covered during this presentation will be made available to faculty for their individual use and discussion.
