Dr. Ronda Hughes, Ph.D, M.H.S., R.N. - Senior Health Scientist Administrator - AHRQ

 

Dr. Ronda Hughes is a nurse who is making a difference for patient safety and quality, through her work as a Senior Health Scientist Administrator at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) where she also serves as Senior Advisor on nursing, policy and research for end-of-life care, patient centered care and for special needs populations within the Center for Primary Care, Prevention, & Clinical Partnerships. Dr. Hughes regularly speaks and writes on patient safety, preventive and primary health care, patient-centered health care, quality of care, vulnerable populations, implementation of clinical guidelines, and current health policy issues.

Prior to joining AHRQ, she worked in HRSA's Bureau of Primary Health Care where she focused on improving access to care for the underserved. Dr. Hughes received a B.S. in nursing from Boston University, an M.H.S. with a minor in biomedical ethics from Johns Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. in Health Policy, with a concentration in Health Services Research from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Hughes' research interests include: clinical quality improvement, patient safety; primary and preventive health care; access to and use of quality health care, particularly for low-income populations; measuring the quality of health care; changing health care organizational factors; health care disparities; and the impact of health policy issues. She also has expertise in the use of large datasets to improve the quality of health care and in the conduct of systematic reviews.  She is a contributing editor to the American Journal of Nursing and the Journal of Applied Nursing Research.  Most recently, she was editor of an AHRQ publication, Patient Safety and Quality: An Evidence-Based Handbook for Nurses, published in April 2008, which now has over 1 million users world-wide.

Dr. Loretta Sweet Jemmott, Ph.D, R.N., F.A.A.N

 

Dr. Jemmott is a globally recognized nurse researcher and leader in HIV-risk reduction intervention research. Her programs, designed to reduce HIV associated sexual risk behaviors in teens, have been culturally adapted world-wide in efforts to educate and stem the tide of AIDS in areas where it is pandemic. She is a member of the Center for Disease Control's Division of HIV, STD and TB Advisory Council, and a member of the Institute of Medicine. Dr. Jemmott will get you excited about building a research program. Among her many awards for her research and community efforts, are the Congressional Merit Recognition Award, the Red Ribbon Award for outstanding service in the field of HIV/AIDS, and the Governor of New Jersey's Nurse Merit Award in Advanced Nursing Practice. Dr. Beverly Malone

 

Dr. Malone's leadership crosses continents. She is a highly respected learner in both education and service settings, and her numerous experiences, awards, and honors for her contributions to health care in the U.S. and around the world have made her influence immeasurable. She was the first American to lead the 400,000 member Royal College of Nurising in the UK. She has been an advisor to English Prime Minister Tony Blair concerning health policy. She has also served as the senior advisor to DHHS Assistant Secretary of Health on legislative priorities , which is the highest position held by any nurse in the U.S. government. Dr. Malone was also appointed by former President Clinton to the World Health Assembly, and was the two-term president of the American Nursing Association. The OU College of Nursing is honored to welcome this influential and dynamic health care leader and learn her leadership secrets.
