Modules

  • Breast and Ovarian Cancer: Karen W. is a 45 year-old healthy female whose mother had breast cancer and died of ovarian cancer. Also, Karen's sister had breast cancer. This case begins with Karen W. approaching her health care professional to inquire about having a prophylactic oophorectomy.
  • Cystic Fibrosis: newborn Jason Harris has symptoms that suggest meconium ileus caused by cystic fibrosis. His elder brother was diagnosed with CF at age 8 months. Jason's parents struggle to come to terms with the realization that their second son might also have inherited the condition.
  • Bipolar Affective Disorder: Ruth, a 27 year-old married female with two children ages two and four, has BPAD (Bipolar Affective Disorder), Type 1. She has a significant family history of others who are similarly affected. In the past, Ruth's health care and social services, including the diagnosis, management, monitoring, and acceptance of her condition have been mostly unsuccessful.
