Orientation Step 1 of 3: Complete 8 Priority Action Items

Please review the 8 items listed below for priority action items.  Most items should be reviewed and some completed prior to attending the new student orientation event on campus.

1. Confirmation

All admitted students must confirm their offer of admission.  An e-mail will be sent by the OUHSC Office of Admissions & Records with instructions.  Please contact Ms. Debbie Shell if you did not receive your email.

2. Set-Up HSC E-Mail Account

Confirm new HSC Email Account:
After you confirm your admission (see #1 above), the OUHSC IT department will email you information to set this up.  Please allow 1-2 weeks for your account to be set-up.  

Contact the OUHSC IT Service Desk if you need assistance with your account set-up. 

 

3. Submit Student Documentation Requirements by Deadlines

New System Update:

Please do not submit these items until attending new student orientation on June 9, 2017 (tentative date) or otherwise instructed.  Additional details will be provided regarding the new system for submission of the below items.

Can I upload certifications from off-campus?
Yes.  However, students must register the DUO security authentication first: https://apps.ouhsc.edu/duo/.

Documentation Requirements 
The below listed items are required for all new students.  Most items have an April 1 or May 1 deadline. Failure to meet the below requirements may prevent enrollment in nursing courses or participation in clinical rotations.

 

The below listed items are required for all new students.  Most items have a July 1 deadline. The Background Check and Drug Screen should be done June 1 - July 1.  Failure to meet the below requirements may prevent enrollment in nursing courses or participation in clinical rotations.

  • Health Form (click hyperlink at left for form) (refer to Health Form Instructions) [Start Early]
    • Includes TB Skin Tests, AHA BSL CPR training, and Immunizations.
    • Health Forms and copies of all documentation should be uploaded to Student Self-Service.
    • Note: In addition to the items on the Health Form, students will be required to submit a copy of their flu shot documentation during the flu season.  Additional details will be sent by email during the applicable time.
    • If one or both waivers applies to you, submit by July 1 with Health Form documentation

      • HepB Waiver - Only complete if you do not have proof of 3 HepB vaccinations or 1 Positive HebB titer

      • Childhood Tetanus Waiver - Only complete if you do not have proof of childhood DPT's.

  • Background Checks (click hyperlink for instructions)
    • Note: Background Checks should be completed after June 1
    • Students do not submit copies of their Background Checks.  The system will automatically update.
    • Must be renewed every 12 months. 
  • Drug Screen Form (click hyperlink for instructions) (refer to Drug Screen Policy
    • Note: Drug Screens should be completed after June 1
    • Must only use CRG Labs.  Directions on the form at the link above.
    • Students living in rural areas or out of state may register online and have their test completed at a local lab under contract by CRG Labs.  Please contact Jim Tedrow with any questions at 1-866-743-6465. (Refer to Drug Screen Policy for Vendor information)
    • Students do not submit copies of their Drug Screens.  The system will automatically update.
    • Must be renewed every 12 months.

4. Textbooks

Order Textbooks (check website for updates)

Textbooks are needed for the first day of classes.  Students may purchase e-books or print books.

Submit any remaining official transcripts to the CON Admissions Coordinator at NursingAdmissions@ouhsc.edu. Students will not be enrolled and financial aid will not be disbursed until final transcripts are received.

Orientation Step 2 of 3: Attend on-campus orientation event

Orientation Event Details

Orientation is mandatory for all new students.

When:  Friday, June 9, 2017, 8:30 am - 1:00 pm 

Where:  OUHSC College of Nursing, Oklahoma City campus, Room 138

 

Items to Bring or Complete at Orientation

Please print and submit the following forms at orientation: 

Additional items such as College of Nursing t-shirts will be available for purchase at orientation.

Orientation Parking Pass

 

A one-day parking pass for orientation will be e-mailed to newly admitted students.

An OUHSC parking permit for the semester will be required for the first day of classes. 

Student ID Cards

 

For students attending Orientation:

  • Pictures will be taken at the end of the on-campus orientation event.  
  • IDs are $10 and can be paid by cash or check only.  
  • Students will pick up their IDs in Room 105 at the College of Nursing during the first week of school. An email will be sent when the IDs are ready.

Student Picture ID

The week before school starts you may go to the OneCard office.  Pictures cannot be taken before enrollment is processed.  

• Students

Required Training Modules

1.  Complete HIPAA Training online. (Available after enrollment is processed)

  • Students must have their OUHSC email account to complete HIPAA training
  • This item will automatically update every 24 hours in the Student Self-Service system.
  • Keep a copy for your records, submitted records cannot be copied
  • Must be renewed annually

2.  Complete Sexual Misconduct Awareness Training (Available after enrollment is processed)

  • Students have two weeks into the fall term to participate in the required training

3.  Complete Environmental Health & Safety Training

  • Students must have their OUHSC email account to complete training
  • This item will automatically update every 24 hours in the Student Self-Service system.
  • Keep a copy for your records, submitted records cannot be copied
  • Must be renewed annually.

Campus Resources

  • Student Counseling Free service to assist with personal and school-based issues.  Services include test taking anxiety, stress management, and personal counseling.
  • Writing Center Free service to assist with development and review of written assignments.  Schedule appointments at beginning of semester using course syllabus due dates as guide.
  • Library Free service to access research documents for assignments.  Full service research librarian team can assist with finding articles and navigating the system. 
  • Police Department Services include walking students to car, assisting with locked doors and dead batteries, or checking on students studying during after-hours.
  • Parking Office Information regarding parking permits, campus maps, and shuttle schedules.
