College of Nursing Scholarships

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing is proud to offer a wide range of scholarships to our students each year, due to the generosity of our donors. Scholarships are awarded during the fall and spring semesters, and are applied directly to students' OUHSC bursar account. Any overpayment will be refunded to the student. The average scholarship amount awarded to undergraduate scholarship recipients is $1,500 per year.

To qualify for a scholarship through the College of Nursing, you must:

  • Be admitted to one of the College of Nursing programs
  • Expected to enroll in the term that the scholarship will be awarded
  • Must have a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file with the Office of Financial Aid by the scholarship deadline. When completing the FAFSA, please use the OUHSC school code 005889. Individuals who are not eligible for FAFSA completion are encouraged to contact the Student Affairs Office at 405-271-2428 extension 49221 or by email at nursing-scholarships@ouhsc.edu.

Please note: Some scholarships may include additional criteria for eligibility that must be met. These criteria are determined by the donor.

The OU College of Nursing is excited to launch our new online scholarship application that is now available. Applications will now be completed and submitted through students Self-Service. The Fall 2017  scholarship application will be open early April 2017.  Deadline to submit Fall 2017 scholarship applications is July 1, 2017. Frequently Asked Questions

How will I be notified when scholarships are available?

You will be notified about scholarships through your OUHSC email, which you receive upon admission into the College of Nursing. In addition, new students will also be notified of scholarships at the OU CON Orientation. To ensure you have the most current information, however, it is also recommended that you check the OU CON website periodically for any updates.

What are the eligibility requirements for scholarships offered through OU CON?

You must be admitted and enrolled at the College of Nursing and have a FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Aid) on file in order for your scholarship application to be considered. Each scholarship will have its own set of criteria which has been predetermined by the donor.  If you are unable to apply for FAFSA, please contact the Student Affairs office at (405) 271-2428 extension 49212.

What is a FAFSA and why do I need to have one on file?

FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  The information that is provided on the FAFSA helps the committee determine each applicant’s financial need.  The FAFSA application is located at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.   If you have any questions regarding the FAFSA you can contact the OUHSC Financial Aid Office at (405) 271-2118. When completing the FAFSA, please use OUHSC code 005889.

Do I need to submit my transcript(s)?

No, you do not need to provide any transcripts. As part of the application for admission, you have already submitted your transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Records. The College of Nursing has access to your file and transcripts.

Are the deadlines strictly enforced?

Yes, the deadlines are strictly enforced. The online scholarship application will no longer be available after the deadline.  Essays and any additional documentation required will not be reviewed and your application will not be considered complete if it is received after the deadline or not postmarked by the deadline date.

How are the essays and additional documentation accepted?

Students may be able to upload additional documentation through their Self-Service. If this will be possible, additional instructions will be provided.

How are the decisions made on who is awarded a scholarship?

The College of Nursing has a scholarship committee that is made up of faculty members from all of our campus locations, a representative from the financial aid office and someone from within the community. The committee will meet and review the applications that have been received. Each application is reviewed to make sure that the applicants meet the criteria of the scholarship. The committee will then vote on who is awarded scholarships.

How will I be notified if I did or did not receive a scholarship?

All applicants will be notified by HSC e-mail as to whether they are awarded or not awarded a scholarship for each application that was turned in. The Committee usually meets within two to three weeks after the application deadline. After they meet it takes about a week or two to process all scholarships and to send out e-mails.

Do you know of any other scholarships that I can apply for that are not through OU CON?

Nursing is a unique major that offers great opportunities for financial assistance toward tuition and fees. This is important considering that most students are not able to work while going to school. The College of Nursing has compiled a list of some scholarships that we have been made aware of from outside sources. This list can be found on the left side of this webpage under "Outside Scholarship Opportunities".

I am not enrolled this semester, will I still get my scholarship?

No. For scholarships to disburse, you must be enrolled.

I already paid my bursar account in full, do I lose my scholarship?

No. If you do not have a bursar balance, a refund may be given to you. The HSC Bursar's Office issues student refunds either by direct deposit or paper check. Students may request funds be received via direct deposit by completing the Direct Deposit Form. More information about student refunds can be found on the Bursar's Office website.
