Computer Requirements

OU College of Nursing instructors use Desire2Learn to organize their course materials and make use of the study and communication tools offered by Desire2Learn, including an online calendar, chat rooms, discussion forums, grade book, quizzes, etc.

Registered users can access Desire2Learn courses through https://ouhsc.desire2learn.com, bookmark site please.

To get the most out of distance education, you will need basic computer skills, a good computer and a high quality internet connection. See below for specific details.

Hardware

Minimum Requirements

• Processor = Pentium IV, Core Duo or higher processor
• Operating System = Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.
• RAM = 1GB
• Hard Drive= 80 GB
• Recommended but not required, High Speed Cable or DSL.
• Multimedia Capabilities = sound card with speakers.
• CD-ROM drive = 24 X or faster
• Recommend CD/DVD-RW drive
• Printer = A high quality ink-jet or laser printer

• MS Word for word processing
• MS Excel for spreadsheets
• MS PowerPoint for presentations
• MS Access for database management

*MS Office is available from Support Services located in the Service Center Building, SCB 101B or visit OUHSC IT Help Desk - Rm. 105 of the OUHSC Student Center.
** If you do have an antivirus program, the University has licensed copies of McAfee Virus Scan available for download at http://it.ouhsc.edu/services/desktopmgmnt/antivirussoftware.asp (requires an OUHSC computer account).

Internet Service Provider (ISP)

The most important component is a high quality Internet connection. We strongly recommend Cable Modem, DSL, ISDN or other high speed broadband. Dial-up modems, while usable, will be frustrating.
