Partners in Quality: From the Board to the Bedside

Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Health Care System, Beta Delta Chapter at Large Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing, the OU Medical System, and the University of Oklahoma Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing invite nursing staff, faculty and students to submit abstracts for the 2018 Partners in Quality: From the Board to the Bedside Conference. The conference will be held at the University of Oklahoma Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing, 1100 North Stonewall Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK.
Presenters will share how nurses are improving patient outcomes through completing Evidence Based Practice or Quality Improvement Projects in the clinical setting. Abstracts will be accepted related to research, evidence-based practice or innovative quality improvement projects, including successful strategies for implementation of EBP or QI in your agency.
Deadline for abstract submission is January 15, 2018
Notification of acceptance will e-mailed by February 1, 2018.
Abstracts should include:
Poster title
Whether submitting for: Poster or a 5-minute Oral Poster Presentation
Abstract: Limited to 300 words (see guidelines below for each category)
List of presenters: One presenter should be identified as primary contact. Primary contact
will receive a $25 discount on registration for the conference (does not include cost of lunch).

Directions: Complete sections of the abstract for your EBP or QI project using the suggested format as applicable to your EBP/QI process. We realize that not all projects will be completed by time of submission. Please use APA format.

EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE SUBMISSIONS (Suggested Format)
Title of Poster or Presentation:
Problem: What was the problem under investigation and how was it identified as a problem? For EBP projects, include PICO question, (population of interest, intervention, comparison intervention, if present, and outcomes). What were goals of the EBP or QI project?
Evidence: Brief description of how evidence for was located (i.e., which databases were searched; systematic reviews or guidelines identified). Brief summary of key points/recommendations based on evidence identified.
EBP Framework: Which EBP framework (if any) guided the process (i.e., Iowa Model, Johns Hopkins PET Model, other).
Practice Change: Describe current practice before change (pre-intervention). Include data, if available, and describe the new practice that was implemented. Discuss implementation of pilot testing and provide pre-intervention data, if available.
Results: Define outcomes of the EBP project/practice change (i.e., identify any new policies/procedures, checklists, education, products, etc., that resulted). Discuss length of time to accomplish, practice change and provide post-intervention data.
Evaluation: Evaluate outcomes of goals for practice change. What methods were used to evaluate success of the practice change?
Recommendations: Based upon completed EBP process, what recommendations are made regarding the practice change?
Lessons Learned: What factors contributed to the project or practice change’s success? What would you do differently?
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT SUBMISSIONS (Suggested Format)
Title of Poster or Presentation:
Problem Diagnosis: Describe the Quality Improvement Initiative, how problem was identified, discuss gap analysis. Describe state of practice before the change (pre-intervention) and process for review and selection of best practices.
Implementation: Define how the plan for introducing best practices was implemented at your agency. Was a model of Quality Improvement utilized?
Results and Analysis: Discuss data collection methods for the project and findings.
Outcomes: Discuss evaluation of effectiveness of the QI change. Relate outcomes. Identify any new policies/procedures, checklists, education, products, etc., that resulted. Discuss length of time to accomplish, practice change and provide post-intervention data.
Lessons Learned: Project evaluation. What factors contributed to the success of the project? What would you do differently?
