College News
Congratulations to Dr. Beverly Bowers, Sheryl Buckner, Linda Baird and Sandra McConnell who have been notified that the College of Nursing CE Dept was awarded a $425,000 contract to provide education for Army Case Managers who will be providing services to returning soldiers. They hope that this will be the start of other educational endeavors and contracts. It seems that this may be the beginning of continued contracts with the Army. Hats off to all!!!
Dr. Carole Kenner received the APN Neonatal Nursing Forum Mentorship Award, Washington DC, June, 2008. Congrats, Dean Kenner!
Dr. Jana Pressler just got word that the Doctoral Program got funded for around $800,000 over three years. Congratulations. We are on a roll!!!!
Congratulations go to Drs. Barbara Holtzclaw and Carole Kenner (along with co-author Marlene Walden of Texas Children’s Hospital) on the publication of Grant Writing: Handbook for Nurses, 2nd Edition.

At the ANA House of Delegates meeting in Washington DC, Dr. Marianne Matzo, was recognized (along with Lucille Joel, former ANA President and former ICN President) with the Honorary Recognition Award. There were a total of about 12 awards in various categories given. Awardees included such notables a Rachel Spector (Honorary Human Rights Award for her work on cultural competence.) Congratulations Marianne. We’re really proud of you!
The Oklahoma VAMC and the College of Nursing have been funded by the VA to promote service/education collaboration and increase numbers of RNs. The program is one of only five funded nationally. The VA will provide clinical supervision to baccalaureate students and the College will provide the didactic instruction. The grant will run four years and is funded at $800,000. Join me in congratulating Anita Finkelman and Dr. Brenda Skaggs on this accomplishment. It can be hoped that this model will be replicated at many sites. Great job, Anita and Brenda!
