About the Center

The Donald W. Reynolds Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence is committed to increasing the number of highly qualified new and existing faculty with expertise in geriatrics who will provide academic leadership in geriatric nursing within Oklahoma, with emphasis on successful community-based aging in place.   To that end, the Center endeavors to: 

  • Provide scholarship opportunities and enrich the University of Oklahoma’s nursing PhD curriculum for students who will assume faculty roles in geriatric nursing.
  • Build the geriatric translational research skills of current doctoral faculty throughout Oklahoma.
  • Create faculty champions state-wide for geriatric nursing education.
  • Disseminate best geriatric care practice and educational resources to support faculty development and aging in place research.

As part of the College of Nursing at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, the Reynolds Center benefits from the College’s faculty expertise in geriatrics, innovative nurse case management program and tradition of state-wide community outreach as well as interdisciplinary campus and community partnerships.  In combination with nine Hartford Centers, the Reynolds Center is one of only 10 centers of geriatric nursing excellence in the country.

The Center was established in July 2008 with the support of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation – the first funding of a nursing initiative by that foundation.
