Distinguished Scholars in Aging Program

The Reynolds Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence Distinguished Scholars in Aging program brings national experts skilled in geriatrics to Oklahoma for consultation, cross-discipline presentations and training sessions with OU faculty, students, and community partners.

2009 Distinguished Scholar in Aging

Dr. Meredeth Rowe served as faculty for the Reynolds Center's first Postdoctoral Geriatric Interdisciplinary Translational Research Institute, Translating the Science of Aging, on May 18 and 19, 2009.  She is Associate Professor at the University of Florida College of Nursing, and teaches research, statistics, pathophysiology and other classes to undergraduate and graduate students.  Her research interest is with informal caregivers of cognitively-impaired individuals and problems they encounter. Dr. Rowe has developed and commercialized a home monitoring system for caregivers of persons with dementia and parents of autistic children. She is currently funded by the NIH and Veteran’s Administration.

Marilyn Rantz, PhD, RN, NHA, FAAN

2009 Distinguished Scholar in Aging

Dr. Marilyn Rantz, the first Reynolds Distinguished Scholar in Aging, visited the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center March 25 - 26, 2009.  A nationally recognized expert on aging in place, technologies to enhance aging in place, quality of care in long-term care, and high performance interdisciplinary research and service teams, she holds the positions of professor at the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing, associate director for the MU Interdisciplinary Center on Aging and director of TigerPlace, an innovative residential facility for aging in place.
