International Program

International Program

The goal of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center Affiliate is to initiate a global perspective within the College of Nursing that meets the four Terms of Reference (ToR) outlined by our sponsor, the University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Nursing. Those four ToR involve capacity building among nurses in Pan American Health Organization countries (and others) such as building leadership capacity, initiating and disseminating research knowledge and initiating child survival programs. As a Collaborating Center we are an arm of the World Health Organization and are to assist WHO in carrying out their mission.

Projects to date have included service learning travel/study programs for faculty and students in Guyana, Guatemala and Bolivia. We have hosted International Visiting Scholars from Russia, Thailand and Taiwan who have had a faculty mentor in residence for from two weeks to six months. More information can be found on our Visiting Scholar Program page.
