The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing Student Association (CONSA) sponsored a Health Fair at Tulakes Elementary School attended by many families.
Community Projects Director, Caroline Richardson, the CONSA officers, Jaanki Bhakta, Catherine Littlejohn, Savannah Kroboth and Jill Boeckman, and Katie McMahan facilitated this health fair to be a successful multi-college health promotion event. In addition to OU College of Nursing faculty members Brenda Helmer, PhD, RN and Loren Stein, RN, seven ABSN, 37 traditional seniors and 68 traditional junior students supported and assisted with activities for this event. “I am very proud of the CONSA officers. They worked hard to organize the health fair and to incorporate students from three other Health Sciences Center colleges,” said Stein.
Activities provided by the OU College of Nursing students consisted of blood pressure screening, stress ball making, de-stress with coloring, vaccine information, sugar in drinks, handwashing, and making healthy fruit ka-bobs. Students had fun with Yogi says (yoga), hula-hooping, fruit/granola bar walk (healthy cake walk), and face painting for the families. Additionally, the College of Pharmacy provided information on Poison Control, brand vs. generic and hypertension medication, the Graduate College discussed preventing the spread of germs and the College of Allied Health Occupational Therapy provided information.
The Oklahoma Department of Parks & Recreation had a table with upcoming event and programs and local law enforcement bicycle patrol participated as well. The event featured a healthy meal for all of the families and student volunteers from CONSA.
