The Take Charge! Program is the Oklahoma State Department of Health's Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, offered in conjunction with the OU College of Nursing. The mission of Take Charge! is to inform women about early detection of breast and cervical cancers to prevent unnecessary suffering and death. The OU College of Nursing's Take Charge! Program offers services at the college itself at the OU Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, as well as many locations throughout the community. These services include free clinical breast exams, mammograms (as appropriate) and Pap tests for those women who qualify. Breast and cervical cancer screenings are an important part of a woman’s wellness plan.
The Take Charge! program offers no-cost services to women in Central Oklahoma who meet the following program guidelines:
Must be uninsured or have high-deductible insurance. In addition, they must not be covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
Women must earn only 185 percent or below of the federal poverty level.
