NP Educational Track Options at OUCN

  • Provides care to persons from newborn through aging, including obstetrics, but not birthing
  • Provides care to persons from newborn through young adults, excluding obstretic
  • Provides care to adolescents through the adult lifespan, including elderly.
  • Provides care to sick or premature infants, or those requiring intensive care management to sustain life, from birth through the first 28 days of life and longer if premature.
  • Prepares existing NPs or Certified Nurse Midwives to:
    • Change their scope of practice (ie. from a Women's NP to a Family NP)
    • Enhance their same scope of practice (FNP, PNP, ANP or NNP) but gain a Masters degree

NP Curriculum

  • Family NP Masters
  • Requires 50 credit hours with approximately 840 clinical hour
  • Pediatric NP Masters
  • Requires 49 credit hours with approximately 720 clinical hours
  • Adult NP Masters
  • Requires 48 credit hours with approximately 720 clinical hours
  • Neonatal NP Masters
  • Requires 49 credit hours with approximately 780 clinical hours
  • Post-Masters Options (all four specialty tracks)
  • Requires 36 to 37 credit hours with clinical preceptorship clock hours ranging from 720 to 800
  • NP and Midwifery Mobility Option
  • Requires 27 to 46 credit hours with clinical preceptorship clock hours ranging from 360 to 450

NP Plans of Study

Graduate students must complete their Masters program within 5 years from admission to the Graduate College.to graduation.

  • Full Time 2 year Plan of Study
  • Selected in the NP pathway, begins in Summer, completes NP course work in 2 years

  • Part Time 3 year Plan of Study
  • Selected in the NP pathway, begins in Summer / Fall, completes NP course work in 3 years
