Child Abuse Interprofessional Project-Tulsa Campus

April is National Child Abuse Month and for the past three years the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing has participated in an interprofessional educational project focusing on child abuse.   OU College of Nursing students have pre-reading assignments in preparation for the day’s events consisting of presentations, simulations and onsite clinical work.   After morning sessions, the students participated in two simulation, one on Child Abuse Assessment and Reporting with standardized patients and another taking students through experiences of women to intimate partner violence, In Her Shoes.   The day ended with a large group debrief involving students, faculty and project partners.    Individuals from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Child Abuse Network in Tulsa, OU College of Social Work along with OU College of Nursing faculty Brenda Nance, Donna Fesler, MSN, RN, CPAN, April Loeffler, MS, RNC-OB,  Cathy Lovelace, MSN, RN,  Jeana Wilcox, PhD, RN, CNS, CNE and Emma Keintz, MS, APRN-CNS, CNE, Tulsa Site Coordinator, participated in project.  Thirty-nine BSN traditional junior students participated and Kientz stated, “Our students enjoyed the experience and learn “how to take a team approach to addressing some very sensitive issues. “
