ABSN Class Raised $11,000 for Camp Kesem

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing ABSN class on the Oklahoma City campus chose Camp Kesem for their fundraiser.  Camp Kesem supports children in the Oklahoma community who have a parent battling cancer by providing a week long summer camp experience and yearlong peer support free of charge.  The camp offers kids with similar experiences a chance to be a kid again.  “Our goal was $5,000,  however, the entire class helped so much with various fundraisers including a golf tournament that raised over $7,500 alone, that we ended up raising $11,000,” stated Lauren Brown, ABSNA President.   The amount raised is enough to send 44 Oklahoma kids to camp.  “It is overwhelmingly rewarding to see the community service and enthusiasm of my students as they work together to achieve their fundraising goals and make a difference in the community, says Tonie Metheny, ABSNA faculty advisor.
