Easy 2-Step Application Process (Must complete both steps)

Applications include the following:

  1. NursingCAS Admission Application
  2. OUHSC Supplemental Application
  • Admission requirements are subject to change. It is the applicant’s responsibility to stay informed regarding current applicable requirements. Please check the website often for updates.
  • For your convenience, a tutorial packet is available for review.
  • Applicants are advised to have a copy of their transcripts available for reference when completing the application process.

Nursing CAS Admission Application (Step #1 of 2)

To prepare, applicants are encouraged to request copies of their official transcripts.  These will be helpful when completing the NursingCAS Application.  Please see below panels regarding references and essay, as well.

Complete NursingCAS Admissions Application at:  


Complete the required sections:

  • Personal Information
  • Academic History
    • Have transcripts available for data entry. The DNP program requires, at minimum, coursework entry for all previously and/or currently attempted graduate courses. Undergraduate transcripts may be requested.
    • We encourage you to enter your own coursework into the electronic transcript.  Should you choose to pay NursingCAS for this service, allow plenty of extra time (at least 6 weeks) for data entry.  NursingCAS will not begin data entry until ALL official transcripts are received. 
  • 3 References/Evaluations
  • Upload Resume/CV
  • Upload Essay (see essay prompts below)

Pay appropriate application fees.



  • Transcripts may be mailed before or after the admissions application is submitted.
  • Transcripts should be sent by the application deadline
  • Official transcripts from each school previously and currently attended must be mailed (recommended using the Nursing CAS request form in the online app)
  • High School transcripts required if utilizing foreign language exemption.

Supplemental Nursing Application (Step #2 of 2)

After starting the NursingCAS Admission Application, the OUHSC Supplemental Application can be started.

Enter the Nursing CAS ID number from the Admission Application (Step 1).


Pay appropriate service fees.


If needed, mail the following to Admissions & Records:

  • Residency documentation
  • Official test score reports (if test credit has not yet been applied at another school)
  • TOEFL exam results (or petition)
  • WES (World Education Services) or ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators)evaluation of international coursework
  • Immigration documentation

Application Deadlines

Applications are accepted during the below listed periods for the respective program. Application deadlines are the end date of the application period. Applications must be received by 10:59 p.m. CST on the application deadline. No late applications are accepted. All applications must be complete. Incomplete applications may not be reviewed. Please review the admission requirements for the selected program prior to applying.

Please note:

Due to federal regulations from the Department of Education, the College of Nursing currently accepts applications for its online doctoral degree programs from residents of the states participating in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA). DNP Essay

The DNP program requires an essay to be attached to the NursingCAS Admission Application. Please review the below prompts to begin working on this essay. 



Your responses to these questions will be evaluated by the DNP Program Committee in making invitations to interview. Please be succinct. Evaluations of the essay questions will include assessment of

  1. Content
  2. Clarity of presentation
  3. Grammar and punctuation
  4. Limit response to 1500 words

Please note the following additional instructions:

  • Follow current APA guidelines for font and line spacing.
  • Do not include your name, address, phone or email address in your essay.

Your essay must address the following:

  1. Describe your understanding of the Doctor of Nursing (DNP) education.
  2. Why are you pursuing a degree as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)?
  • How did you decide to pursue a DNP versus a PhD degree in nursing?
  • What are your education and career goals?
  1. Please comment on your qualifications and readiness for doctoral study in nursing
  2. Describe your involvement in leadership, quality improvement, program evaluation or  interprofessional collaboration in your chosen practice areas.
  3. Describe the population of patients and/or setting where you plan to provide care upon completion of your DNP education. State why you have selected these patients or setting.
  4. Do you know any DNPs?
  • If so, what insight have you gained from knowing these individuals as DNPs?
  1. What do you plan on doing professionally three years after completion of DNP education?
  • What do you envision as a potential contribution you will make in health care as a DNP?

General Recommendations for Applicants



  • Following the initial application process, applicants may need to update their grades or transcripts.
  • Updated grades or new planned/in-progress coursework should be updated in the NursingCAS admission application during the application process.
  • Updated transcripts may be sent to the NursingCAS Transcript Department during the application process.

  • Check e-mail accounts routinely for any communication from the College or application service. Respond promptly to any requests.


Incomplete Applications

It is the applicant's responsibility to confirm all admission requirements are met and all coursework (including planned prerequisite courses) is posted for proper evaluation of the application. Applicants may not be contacted by the College if their application is deficient or incomplete. Again, this is the applicant’s responsibility.

Admission Timeline

  • Complete applications will be processed only after the application deadline has passed.
  • The application review process will take approximately 2-4 months to complete.
  • Applicants will be notified by e-mail regarding their admission status.
  • Certain programs may require an enrollment deposit if admission is offered.

International Applicant Instructions


If the applicant has completed coursework outside of the United States, the applicant must obtain an evaluation of the international coursework through World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). The WES  or ECE evaluation will not determine the applicant's eligibility for or admission to the nursing program. The WES or ECE evaluation will only determine the U.S. equivalency of the international coursework.   • Employment: Students seeking licensure in the state of Oklahoma as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse must meet the regulatory requirements of the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. In November 2007, the State of Oklahoma passed legislation which potentially limits employment opportunities to international students. Applicants are encouraged to review these guidelines prior to admission to the nursing program. Please visit the Oklahoma Board of Nursing website at:
  • Online Curriculum: Current Oklahoma regulations preclude international students from participating in academic programs that are conducted entirely via the Internet. Applicants are advised to review the curriculum for their anticipated program.
