As Co-Chair of the NIH Inclusion Governance Committee, Dr. Bernard brings
particular insight for research teams about the intention and expected impact of
the recent NIH policy revision on inclusion of individuals across the lifespan in
clinical research. After a brief review of the recent policy change, Dr. Bernard
will engage the interdisciplinary audience in conversation as we consider
interventions and strategies to recruit and retain populations of interest into
research studies.
Objectives:
1. Review the NIH Policy on Inclusion across the Lifespan in clinical research
(including clinical trials) to be applied to all NIH grant applications due on or
after 25 January 2019.
2. Clarify the role of the NIH Inclusion Governance Committee in initiatives to
promote inclusion across the lifespan in clinical research.
3. Consider outreach strategies used by investigators to recruit and retain
populations of interest to research studies across the lifespan.
