Stoles and Cords

Students may be awarded additional stoles and cords based on their membership or participation in organizations. Please consult with your organization's president or adviser to determine whether stoles or cords are available and where they can be purchased or picked up.

Graduation items can be purchased in several ways throughout the spring graduation season.
Graduation Gear Up Events
Stoles and honor cords will be available for purchase at all three Graduation Gear Up events:
  • Norman Campus  
    • March 3–6, 2026 | 10 AM–6 PM
    • 900 Asp Avenue, Norman, OK 73019
    • Pre-order and pick up are not available. 
    • Cap and gown sets will be available for purchase. 
    • Honor cords, hoods, and stoles will be available for purchase.
  • OU Health Sciences Center – Oklahoma City  
    • March 25–26, 2026 | 10 AM–2 PM
    • 1106 N. Stonewall Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73117
    • Pre-order and pick up: Students enrolled in a Health Campus-based program can pre-order caps, gowns, and accessories. Items will be shipped to the Health Campus for pick-up at the Graduation Gear Up event.

Jostens Pop‑Up Shop
  • Starting April 2026, students may purchase stoles, cords, and other regalia items at the Jostens Pop‑Up Shop, located on the west side of the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium (1185 Asp Avenue, Norman, OK 73019). The shop will operate with limited hours through Commencement Weekend, and updated dates and hours will be posted in February 2026. For questions, the store can be reached at (405) 310‑2688.

  • Regalia items may be shipped directly to your home when ordered through Jostens by March 27, 2026.

Official OU Graduation Announcements & the OU Tradition Ring 

  • Jostens representatives will be on the OU Health Campus on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 10 AM – 3 PM in The Student Union to showcase official OU graduation announcements and the OU Tradition Ring. Students can order these items on-site or via jostens.com. If you cannot make the in-person event, please consider registering for a virtual, one-on-one appointment with a Jostens representative. Dates are available in January and February 2026. 

Latin Honorifics

Latin honors for Health Sciences undergraduate and graduate degrees are conferred based on the cumulative program grade point average (GPA). This GPA includes grades earned in required prerequisite courses transferred into undergraduate programs, as well as grades received during the student's enrollment in the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences program.

A student’s honors are determined by the student’s cumulative program GPA, as outlined below: 

  • New GPA Requirements for Latin Honorifics, Effective Fall 2025*  
    • cum Laude (3.60 to 3.74) 
      • *Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 graduates with a 3.50 to 3.74 GPA will be honored as cum Laude 
    • Magna cum Laude (3.75 to 3.89) 
    • Summa cum Laude (3.90 to 4.00) 
    • 4.0 Medallion (4.00) 
The final transcript, the University commencement program, and the graduate’s diploma will carry the earned designation of Summa cum Laude, Magna cum Laude, or cum Laude. 

Academic Regalia:  Graduation regalia includes the cap and gown, along with other distinguishing hoods, stoles, and cords that denote traditions of academic achievement or involvement in organizations. 

Latin Honorifics: Graduate and professional program students graduating with Latin honorifics wear a specific color hood with their gown. Undergraduate program students wear a specific color hood with their gown.
  • cum Laude - Gold hood 
  • Magna cum Laude - Cream hood
  • Summa cum Laude - Crimson hood 
4.0 Medallion:  Health Campus graduate, professional, and undergraduate academic program students with an overall programmatic 4.0 GPA are eligible to receive a 4.0 University Medallion on a crimson ribbon. This medallion may be worn during Commencement and other academic celebrations. Details on official eligibility requirements for the 4.0 Medallion are available here
