Dr. Svenson's pre-nursing background includes military service focusing on mental health triage and PTSD prevention, commercial real estate project management, and counseling families through the process of death investigation (Medical Examiner).

Her nursing career has focused primarily on maternal-child health. She has worked as an inpatient and outpatient postpartum RN and IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) both in Texas and Oklahoma. Ingrid served as Assistant Director of the Oklahoma Breastfeeding Resource Center at OU’s College of Medicine, teaching students and healthcare providers to provide best practices that improve public and maternal-child health.

Dr. Svenson's teaching philosophy centers around transformational learning. She uses various methods to help students transition from passive to active, intrinsically motivated learners, equipping them to be effective nurses and leaders for years to come. Her research is focused on health equity, maternal-child attachment, and somatization.
